East London at a glance
Goodwood lies between the northern and southern suburbs of Cape Town, just 11 kilometers from Cape Town Harbour and the City Centre, and equally close to Cape Town International Airport. It is easily accessible by all the major national highways, namely the N1, N3 and the N7. These roads connect it to the rest of the Cape including the West Coast, Cape Winelands and the Helderberg. Goodwood is accessible by public transport, and lies on the main Cape Town - Johannesburg railway line.
A Brief History
A story that is often told is that the area was named after a famous racecourse in England as the founders intended to make it a horse racing arena. A racing track was actually constructed, but after only one meeting it was abandoned and Goodwood slowly developed into the municipality it is today - an area with ever growing potential for industrial development. There are some good residential areas located within Goodwood - as a residential node it boasts some beautiful and historic houses, many of which still feature their original fittings from the early 1900’s. There is a strong local community and a lot of pride is taken in the suburb’s history.
The ideal location of Goodwood makes it an excellent option for businesses that require warehousing and offices in a location central to the airport , harbour, and other well known and popular industrial and commercial nodes such as Epping, Maitland, Elsies River, and of course Century City. The main benefit this suburb offers is its excellent accessibility, with the N1 running along its border, and the R102 running directly through it connecting to Maitland and Parow. The M7 connects it with Epping and the N2.
Goodwood is continually developing and now has a number of business sectors with a presence in this area - including food producers, printing works, furniture, textile and even earth-moving companies.
